Pacific Health Ministry: Clergy Service Programs
Clergy Service Programs

There are two programs in which clergy from all religious traditions may offer service through PHM.

Spiritual Care Disaster Response
PHM works cooperatively with the Red Cross and other disaster response organizations to provide spiritual care to victims and their families. PHM has served in many situations including Hurricane Iniki, the Xerox shootings, and the Sacred Falls hiking accident. Support is provided to the victims and families as they deal with health crises, deaths, dis-location of family members, religious questions, and fears of continued losses. Training and credentialing are provided to work with PHM staff in the event of major crisis events for Hawai‘i.

Institutional Spiritual Care Service
PHM works with the major health and long term care institutions in Hawai'i. There are many needs greater than can be provided by staff. Likewise there are diverse cultural and religious groups seeking specific assistance. Clergy with specialized training may be invited to volunteer to serve these specific needs and join PHM staff in caring for patients, families and staff at the institutions. Ordination or credentials from a recognized religious body are required for consideration. Training and orientation are provided to all volunteers.
